Library Card Policies
Amarillo Public Library cards are free to all who live or own property within the Amarillo city limits. Nonresidents may purchase an APL annual fee card for $18 per year. There is a $33 family rate to provide all members of a family with annual fee cards. Please have a government issued photo ID and proof of address available to staff when applying for an APL card.
If you lose your library card, please contact the library right away so you are not held responsible for items checked out by someone else. The cost for a replacement card is $1.
Library Cards expire once a year. Card renewals must be made in person and require an ID and proof of current address.
There are no age restrictions for owning a library card, but children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a guardian in order to obtain one.
HLC cards: HLC card holders outside the city limits (Canyon, Herford, Borger exc.) can be used for many APL services. However, the card holder may not place holds on new items or on items that are checked out. The item requested must be readily available on the shelves.
TexShare cards: The TexShare card program allows registered users of participating TexShare libraries to obtain a TexShare card in order to borrow materials directly from other participating libraries in the state.
