We assist patrons in the following ways:
- Print out forms
- Read the form’s instructions to patrons
- Translate and explain the language of the forms
- Type into the computer information from forms that are completed by the patrons
- Direct patrons to USCIS online resources
- Share resources found on the USCIS website
- Act as interpreters for phone conversations with USCIS
- Read and interpret USCIS letters
- Provide citizenship classes to the public
- Refer patrons to Catholic Charities (an OLAP Recognized organization) or an Immigration Attorney
- Attend USCIS training conferences to ensure that the USCIS information we provide is up to date
- Forms that we assist with include N-400s, N-600s, I-912s, and I-90s.
We do not:
- Present ourselves as legal authorities or affiliates of USCIS
- Offer any legal instruction or advice
- Handle any immigration issues concerning the acquisition of permanent residence
- Represent patrons in front of any boards or committees
- Record or save any information about patrons or cases

Citizenship Classes
As part of our Community Reading Program, AMARILLO READS, the Amarillo Public Library is pleased to offer English as a Second Language and Citizenship Classes. The classes are free, but registration is required. There are three opportunities each year to enroll: Winter/Spring, Summer, and Autumn.
Amarillo Public Library will offer a Citizenship Class taught in Spanish as well as the usual class in English. Classes are free, but registration is required and interested students can register for either class at these times. INS rules require that students planning to take the US Citizenship Class in a language other than English must have had their green card for at least 20 years and be at least 50 years old OR have held a green card for at least 15 years and be at least 55 years old.
