Book Sale Raises Funds to Support Library Projects
Book lovers from all across the Texas Panhandle will want to mark their calendars for September 8 through 10. Those are the dates for the next Friends of the Amarillo Public Library book sale which takes place in the basement of the Downtown Amarillo Public Library.
Amarillo Public Library Coordinator of PR and Programming Stacy Clopton says book sales offer readers a chance to build a personal library and provide valuable funds for library projects. “The Friends support the library by funding projects not financed with taxpayer dollars. That includes everything from author visits to craft supplies—special equipment purchases to refreshments at Story Times. The Summer Reading Club, which rewards kids for daily reading in the summer, is a good example. With expenses for printing and prizes, it is a very expensive program and it is entirely paid for by the Friends.”
In this brown bag sale, book lovers select from a huge selection of books and other media and pay just $7.50 per bag or 3 bags for $20. Shoppers who bring their own reusable shopping bags (not paper bags) save money by paying just $7 per bag or buying 3 bags for $18. The Friends group reserves the right to charge extra for extra-large bags, and boxes or bins are not permitted in the book sale area.
The sale begins with a “Friends Only” night on Friday, September 8 from 6:30 to 9 PM. On Saturday, the sale is open to the public from 9 AM to 6 PM; and on Sunday, shoppers can pick up bargains at just $5 per bag.
2023 Friends memberships are available for purchase at all APL locations and people can even buy a membership at the door when the sale begins at 6:30. Memberships are $10 for individuals or $25 for families.
Members of Amarillo College’s Presidential Scholars Program will be at the sale assisting shoppers with bag storage and transport. They will use tips received to support the Chris Macon Memorial Scholarship.
