It’s almost time for the return of AMA-CON—a pop culture convention hosted by Friends of the Amarillo Public Library which celebrates everything that is geeky and awesome!  This year’s con takes place August 3 and 4 at the Amarillo Civic Center!!

Each year, AMA-CON draws thousands of pop culture enthusiasts taking advantage of opportunities to indulge various fandoms, learn new things, and explore the awesomeness! 

Director of Library Services Amanda Barrera says the con makes some of the library’s most popular programs possible.  “AMA-CON brings people together and highlights Amarillo Public Library programs and services.  It also raises funds that the Friends use to support Library programs not financed by taxpayer dollars such as our Summer Reading Club, English as a Second Language Classes, the MakerSpace, and many other education and enrichment opportunities provided by the library.”

Highlights of AMA-CON 2024 include:

• FIVE separate Cosplay contests:  Kids, Anime, Comic, Gaming, and Sci-Fi/Original Characters
• Panels on art, literature, trivia
• Vendors offering everything from comic books to steampunk jewelry and more!
• Geek Prom, Art Show, and Sketch Off
• Science activities from the Don Harrington Discovery Center
• Gaming tournaments, demonstrations, and free play
• Fantastic creatures from the Amarillo Zoo

AMA-CON 2024 takes place Saturday and Sunday, August 3 and 4 in the Amarillo Civic Center’s four largest exhibit halls.
