Acclaimed poet Naomi Shihab Nye will visit Amarillo in May and offer readings and workshops for local poetry enthusiasts.
Nye is a Palestinian-American poet and educator especially known for her work with children and young adults. Nye’s many accomplishments include:
- Academy of America Poets Chancellor
- Poetry Foundation’s Young People’s Poet Laureate
- National Book Award Finalist
- Winner of four Pushcart Prizes
- Jane Addams Children’s Book Award Winner
- Winner of a Notable Children’s Book Award from the American Library Association
The schedule for Naomi Shihab Nye’s visit includes readings at WTAMU’s Cornette Library and the Southwest Branch of the Amarillo Public Library:

Wednesday, May 7: Doors open at 7 and reading begins at 7:30
Amarillo Public Library Southwest Branch: 6801 W 45th Ave.
Books will be available for purchase through Burrowing Owl Books at both poetry readings.
Nye’s visit is made possible by a partnership between the Amarillo Public Library, West Texas A&M University, WT’s Texas Poets’ Corner, and Burrowing Owl Books, along with several private donors.
