Update:
The North Branch library will be reopening on Monday, May 4. We look forward to seeing you all there again!
Amarillo Public Library’s North Branch is getting some much needed repairs which will unfortunately require closing the branch to the public starting Monday, April 13. Amarillo Public Library will reopen the location as soon as possible, but renovations are expected to take at least four weeks.
Assistant Director of Library Services Shaun McDonald says the renovations include a total roof replacement and new HVAC units. “The City of Amarillo’s Facilities Department has made multiple repairs to the North Branch roof over the years, but parts of it have been there since the branch opened in 1974. Several sections are at end-of-life and must be replaced. The new HVAC units will be more efficient and make the building more comfortable for our patrons, so we are excited about the improvements.”
Director of Library Services Amanda Barrera says closing the branch during renovations is the safest option. “It’s not feasible to keep the branch open while the work is being done, but we do know that North Side residents rely on their neighborhood library and we hope to reopen as soon as possible. We encourage our patrons to visit one of APL’s four other locations while North Branch is closed. We also have a wide array of online options such as Kanopy, PressReader, and Cloud Library available to help our patrons access information and entertainment.”
