Amarillo Public Library’s Axolotl Agents—have once again placed in the Girls Who Game national competition.

Each year, Girls Who Game teams use Minecraft to formulate creative solutions to real-world problems.  Out of dozens of entries from around the country, the APL team placed third in the People’s Choice category and received special recognition from the judges for their collaboration on the 2023 challenge.

This year’s prompt directed teams to design an interactive and immersive world with experiences that would empower users to distinguish truth from misinformation and disinformation online.  The Agents’ solution created an information park with opportunities to test online assertions and learn to distinguish fact from propaganda.

Team leader Maggie Elder her team’s work shows that great things can happen when people work together.  “I could not be more proud of all of the hard work the girls put forth on this project.”

Girls Who Game is an extracurricular program created by Dell Technologies with partners Microsoft and Intel. It provides an opportunity for underserved students across North America to learn about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through gaming.  Players learn skills such as computational and critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, problem-solving, and innovation, and are empowered to become leaders in STEM related fields.
