June 11 & 16: The American Revolution: Conquer by a Drawn Game (January 1777 - February 1778) - Begins

  • Brandywine and Germantown: Howe defeated Washington at Brandywine, forcing the Continental Congress to flee Philadelphia 

  • Battle of Trenton: Washington’s surprise attack on December 26, 1776, had boosted morale, but in 1777 he opposed Cornwallis’s advance from Princeton, stalling near Trenton at the Assunpink Creek.

  • Burgoyne’s Southern Campaign: Initially successful, Burgoyne took Ticonderoga and advanced south, but was halted at Bennington and Fort Stanwix. The Battle of Oriskany saw devastating losses for Patriot forces, highlighting the breakdown of alliances with the Haudenosaunee (Six Nations).

  • Saratoga Victory: In October 1777, Washington’s forces defeated Burgoyne at Saratoga, a decisive American win that convinced France to formally support the United States with arms, money, and an alliance

July 2: Happy 250th Birthday, America Party!

All events will take place at the Downtown Library, 413 SE 4th in Amarillo.  Doors will open at 5 PM.  Events will start at 5:30 PM and films will be followed by a brief discussion.  Events will end by 7 PM. Light refreshments provided.
