The first episode of Ken Burns' documentary, The American Revolution, titled In Order to Be Free (May 1754 - May 1775), explores the early events that set the stage for the Revolutionary War. It begins with George Washington leading Virginia militiamen and Native American allies in an ambush against French forces, marking the start of the French and Indian War, part of the global Seven Years' War.
