Summer Youth Labor Force

From April to July 2008 (July being the traditional summertime peak for youth employment), the number of employed youth 16 to 24 years old increased by 1.9 million to 21.0 million. Unemployment among youth increased by 1.2 million over the same period. Full Text »

Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment (Monthly)

August 27, 2008
Unemployment rates were higher in July than a year earlier in 338 of the 369 metropolitan areas, lower in 25 areas, and unchanged in 6 areas. Among the 310 metropolitan areas for which nonfarm payroll data were available in July, 188 metropolitan areas reported over-the-year increases in employment, 110 reported decreases, and 12 had no change.
