For many years Story Times were offered only at the Branch Libraries, but now there are opportunities to attend Story Times at the Downtown Library. Songs & Stories is a Story Time for all ages—but particularly for pre-schoolers. For more information about Downtown Story Times, call 378-3089.

This month’s selection is The Devil’s Arithmetic by Jane Yolen. This award-winning novel of the Holocaust is a modern classic which Kirkus reviews called, “triumphantly moving.” Join us for good conversation about a great book.
Registration is at 9:30-11:30 AM OR 5:30-7:30 PM at the Downtown Library.
This autumn, AMARILLO READS is offering ESL instruction at the East Branch as well as the Downtown Library. ESL classes are FREE and cover BASIC English, but enrollment is required. Classes begin September 2 and the fall schedule will be Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 PM at the Downtown Library, OR Wednesdays and Thursdays at the East Branch Library at 9:30 AM.

YA literature isn’t just for teens anymore. In fact, adults over 18 account for the majority of YA book purchases. Come join us to learn why readers of all ages love YA lit and choose a book to discuss in September.
Research shows kids who attend library story times read earlier and are better prepared to start school! Join us at East Branch Library at 3:30.

For the first time, AMARILLO READS will offer a Citizenship Class taught in Spanish as well as the usual class in English. Classes are free, but registration is required and interested students can register for either class at these times. INS rules require that students planning to take the US Citizenship Class in a language other than English must have had their green card for at least 20 years and be at least 50 years old OR have held a green card for at least 15 years and be at least 55 years old. The Spanish language class will meet Mondays and Tuesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 AM and classes in English will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.Classes begin September 2 and take place at the Downtown Library.
