Telephone RenewalsFor added convenience, all items may be renewed by telephone provided there is no reserve placed on an item. Please be ready to give your library card number to a staff member when calling to renew items. To renew by phone please call the Circulation Desk of any Amarillo Public Library location.
HoldsPatrons may place a hold on items which are in high demand and are charged out. The patron will be contacted when the reserved item has been returned. The item will be held for three days for the patron to pick up. No fee is charged for holds which are available at another APL location. Patrons outside the Amarillo Public Library service area may request materials through Interlibrary Loan through their local libraries. Patrons may place holds on materials at any Reference Department of any library outlet, or by calling the Central Library Reference Department at 378-3049. Interlibrary LoanInterlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service that gives patrons access to a wider selection of library materials than may be available in a local library. ILL allows libraries to share resources for the benefit of our users. Amarillo Public Library continues to offer ILL service to its patrons, but asks those who use the service to help cover part of the cost. As of October 1, 2011, a $3 per item charge will be added to patron accounts for materials acquired through Interlibrary Loan. The charge is assessed when the requested item arrives at the Amarillo Public Library. Standard overdue fines apply to ILL materials. Until August 31, 2011, interlibrary loan for public libraries in Texas was entirely funded by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, which covered 100% of the costs for staffing, packing, couriers and postage. During the 2011 State Legislative session, funding for the Texas State Library was cut 67% and funding for all ILL centers was eliminated as a result. A $3 per item charge on ILL materials covers one-way postage for ILL materials. Amarillo Public Library continues to cover 100% of administrative costs of the program, as well as 50% of postage costs. All Interlibrary Loan requests are handled by reference staff at any Amarillo Public Library location.
